NDIS

NDIS DEFINITION

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a government-funded support program for people living with a disability in Australia. The NDIS supports people with a disability and their families to lead fulfilling lives. It also helps people to be involved in the community, work and study, and even play sports.

The NDIS is a needs-based system that helps you choose what applies to your needs. It provides funding for equipment and services, transport, communication support, respite care and personal assistants. You can also get help with preparing for your future.

You will have an individual plan that explains what support you will receive from the NDIS and how that support will be delivered by your planner or planner team. Your goal should be reviewed regularly when there are significant changes in your situation so that it can continue to meet your needs over time.

There are several different types of NDIS definition. Each is designed to meet an individual’s unique needs and circumstances:

Personal Care supports people with disabilities to live as independently as possible by providing help with activities like meal preparation, shopping, housework and personal care.

Transport helps people get to places they need, whether work or school, the shops or other activities. It can also include travel by taxi or another transport service to medical appointments.

Community Participation helps people learn new skills and find opportunities to be active members of their community by providing support with things like volunteering, joining clubs or going on outings with friends.

What types of support will be funded by the NDIS?

The NDIS will provide funding for various supports, including personal care, daily living activities, communication support, assistive technology and equipment, therapy services, respite and other support services.

The types of support funded by the NDIS will be determined by your plan and may change over time as your needs change.

  • Personal care assistance includes the provision of help with washing and dressing.
  • Equipment and aids, such as wheelchairs and hearing aids
  • Home modifications or adaptations, such as ramps to make homes more accessible to people in wheelchairs or walkers
  • Transport services, like taxis or lifts, for people who have trouble getting around

Am I Eligible For The NDIS?

If you are eligible for the NDIS, you will have a plan that helps you meet your goals. Your plan will include activities and services to help improve your life.

You may be eligible if:

  • You have a permanent disability or medical condition likely to be lifelong.
  • You are between the ages of 7 and 65.
  • You are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, and Protected Special Category Visa holder.
