Daily Living Activities

Daily Living Activities, also known as Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), encompass essential tasks that individuals typically perform on a daily basis to maintain their health, well-being, and independence. These activities are fundamental for individuals to function independently and engage in their daily lives effectively. Daily Living Activities are categorized into two main types: basic activities and instrumental activities.

Basic Activities of Daily Living (BADLs):

  • Personal Hygiene: Activities such as bathing, grooming, oral care, and toileting are essential for maintaining cleanliness and personal hygiene.
  • Dressing: Dressing involves selecting appropriate clothing, putting it on, and ensuring comfort and modesty.
  • Feeding: Feeding includes the ability to consume food and fluids independently or with assistance if required.
  • Mobility: Mobility refers to the ability to move around safely and independently, including activities such as walking, transferring from one surface to another, and using mobility aids if needed.
  • Continence: Maintaining continence involves control over bowel and bladder functions to prevent accidents and maintain hygiene.

By addressing both basic and instrumental activities of daily living, individuals can maintain their independence, enhance their quality of life, and actively participate in their communities.
